Oscar de la Renta
Oscar de la Renta, also known as, Oscar Aristides Ortiz de la Renta Fiallo is a Dominican-American fashion designer. He founded his brand in 1965 blending European luxury with American ease. He helped define standards of elegant dressing among socialites such as celebrities and first ladies. Prior to starting his brand, he worked under Cristóbal Balenciaga and Antonio del Castillo. His brand gained attention in the late 1960s and early ’70s for his gypsy- and Russian-themed collections. His brand is known for a vibrant color palette, delicate silk prints, the use of ruffles, and soft silhouettes. He is widely known for his evening wear and suits for women, worn by figures such as Hillary Clinton. Towards the end of his career in 1993 he became head designer at Pierre Balmain.
