Come on Barbie, let's go party. It’s no secret that Barbie pink is the color of the summer. We’ve seen the bright, fun color everywhere from the runways, red carpets, on celebrities, and in retail stores. Barbiecore is trending on the internet and we can thank Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling for the re-emergence of the iconic style.
Although, the Barbie movie is not the sole influence for the popularization of the feminine, energetic color. Valentino made a statement when debuting Pink PP, its house hue for the Fall 2022 collection. The Italian fashion house partnered with the Barbie brand to create a collection titled “Shades of Pink”. Celebrities such as Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Ashley Park were dressed in head-to-toe Pink PP at the Valentino Couture Fashion Show in Rome, Italy this past July.
Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film gives fashion fans a new plethora of inspiration from hot pink flared pants paired with a cowgirl hat, and neon green roller skates worn with matching spandex. We’re already seeing the influence of the film in both luxury fashion and fast fashion. You can thank fashion designer, Jacqueline Durran, for the pink obsessed fashion swirling the internet. Oscar-winning costume designer Durran has also created the costumes for famous movies such as “Little Women” and “Anna Karenina”.
The film is slated to hit the big screen in 2023, and Barbie fans and fashionistas alike are gearing up for the premier of the fashion forward film. The hashtag “#barbiecore” has been trending on social media, featuring pink clothing, handbags, accessories, shoes, and makeup.
The color pink is often associated with all things feminine: love, kindness, and even holidays such as Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day. But the first thing that comes to my mind now is Barbiecore. And of course all the pink pieces from DoubleTake currently on my wishlist.
