NYFW: Recap Of Our Favorite Brands

NYFW: Recap Of Our Favorite Brands

Written by Kathryn Andes
We’ve been waiting in anticipation for New York Fashion Week Fall 2023. Being in the thick of winter buried under blanket scarves and sherpa coats- we’re happy to have fresh new looks to obsess over. Keep scrolling to see our top picks from our favorite designers. Even though we saw many vibrant colors debuted in each show, a key color that prevailed among many designers was scarlet red. Paired with the “lingerie as clothes” theme it created an image of the alpha female. Red is a color that symbolizes confidence, attention, and dominance. You can expect lace bustier tops, plunging necklines, sheer details, and lots of long bell sleeves. Let’s dive into our favorite designer looks.

1. Rodarte

The inspiration for the Rodarte Fall 2023 show was gothic fairies, featuring long bell sleeves, lace details, black eye makeup, cobweb knits, choker necklaces, and black velvet. Kate and Laura Mulleavy told Vogue that their mother was a huge inspiration when creating this collection, as she provided watercolor illustrations that inspired many of their dresses.

2. Coach

The main theme in the Coach show was buttery, rich leather. They used recycled leather from their factories to create patchwork pieces like coats, skirts, jackets and shorts. The American born fashion house has gained the reputation of being “America’s house of leather” because of their high quality leather pieces. In addition to their leather heavy looks, Coach lightened the collection with sheer dresses and distressed knits.

3. Tory Burch

Tory Burch was a brand to watch this year, slowly stepping out of their trademark conservative modest style, and adding some more daring pieces. The collection consisted of scarlet red, deep v-necklines, and bustier inspired dresses, a new look for the fashion label. One look to remember was the black silk corset dress Emily Ratajkowski wore to close the show. It’s safe to say Tory Burch fans were surprised at the designer's new direction.

4. Thom Browne

Oversized blazers are nothing new in the fashion world, but we love Browne’s take on the classic gray suit. He uses traditional patterns and colors while contrasting with asymmetrical silhouettes. His boxy lines cross gender norms to create an androgynous look.

5. Prabal Gurung

One of the main themes in the Prabal Gurung show were butterflies, of course designed in scarlet red, the color of the season. Gurung told Vogue that he was inspired by a retreat he attended where he came face to face with a butterfly. He said in this collection he wanted to create a connection between western and eastern styles of dressing. We love all of these looks, especially the black and white speckled coat.

6. Alexander Wang

Lace and scarlet red continue in the Alexander Wang Fall 2023 collection. This line features ruffled sheer necklines, lace detailing, floor length fringe, snakeskin, and sweetheart necklines. This collection from Wang emulates passion, power, and romance. Dark eye makeup and minimalist jewelry allow for more focus on the outfit.

7. Puppets & Puppets

We love this take on the power suit, the sheer cutout gives the look character and structure. The second look features mixed media such as lace, velvet, and beading. The handbag stands out because of its unique telephone style top handle. Lastly the scarlet red fur overcoat stole our hearts with its rich texture and striking color.
